Qualities like taste, innovation, sustainability and performance are what matter most to consumers and brand owners – which is why aluminum beverage packaging takes the lead in the industry. The Open Up to Cans campaign, developed by the Can Manufacturers Institute (CMI), showcases how the beverage can provides appealing, practical and beneficial features to brands and consumers alike. The campaign is supported by a series of research reports commissioned by the CMI between 2012 and 2015. 

Sustainability

Cans are 100 percent and infinitely recyclable. With a 70 percent recycling rate, aluminum cans are the single-most recycled beverage package in the United States.

Consumers prefer cans not only because they are easy to recycle, but they are also made of recycled material – reducing environmental impact from start to finish of the product lifecycle. In fact, seven in ten survey respondents said they would purchase a product because its packaging is better for the environment, and more than 80 percent stated that the infinite recyclability of cans matters to them.
