Consumers and brand owners alike are placing a high value on sustainability. As part of this, how products are made and packaged, as well as how packages are ultimately disposed of, is under increased scrutiny and greater emphasis is being placed on moving towards a circular economy. Under this system, materials can be regenerated and constantly flow around a ‘closed loop,’ rather than being used once and then discarded.

Metal packaging, and the beverage can in particular, is a model for the circular economy because it embodies sustainability. It is made from permanent materials whose inherent properties do not change during use and despite repeated recycling into new products. This means that when a metal product reaches the end of its useful life, the material is never lost. Through recycling, its value is retained forever, making it available today and for future generations.

Check out our latest infographic detailing why the beverage can is the perfect example of a circular economy at work.
