Crown Highlights Innovations to Help Brands Enhance Self Impact and Conumer Convenience at Aerosol Dispensing Forum

Wednesday, December 7, 2016

Philadelphia, PA — December 07, 2016. Household, cosmetic, personal care, food and industrial manufacturers can discover innovations to make products stand out at the point-of-sale and enhance ease of use by visiting CROWN Aerosols & Specialty Packaging, a business unit of Crown Holdings, Inc. (NYSE: CCK) (Crown) (www.crowncork.com), at the Aerosol Dispensing Forum (ADF) (January 18-19, 2017; Paris, France), Booth # F25. At the show, which is co-located with the Packaging of Perfume Cosmetics & Design exhibition, Crown will showcase its portfolio of aerosol and cosmetic technologies for primary and secondary packaging and related services. Crown’s experts will also highlight the sustainability benefits of steel as a packaging material.

Here are just a few examples of the advanced technologies that attendees can expect to see:

  • Crown’s patented BICAN® technology allows viscous products, including non-traditional aerosol applications, to be dispensed cleanly and effectively. BICAN® incorporates a plastic inner bag to keep product and propellant completely separate. This separation ensures the propellant is not emitted during dispensing and prevents the product from coming into contact with the aerosol can itself.
  • A range of specialty finishes that can help boost the tactile and visual properties of aerosol packaging will also be featured at ADF. Some of the featured finishes will include sparkle – which twinkles when light hits it - and crackle – which adds a marble, leatherette or authentic ‘aged’ feel. Attendees can also learn about a variety of decorative options, from gloss and matte to fluorescent inks.
  • A collection of tin shapes for the cosmetics market will also be on display. This will include limited edition and gifting tins, as well as packaging for promotional campaigns.

On the second day of the show, Crown will be participating in the ADF’s “Aerosol & Dispensing: new opportunities” conference program, where attendees will be offered an insight into the future of aerosol technology. In a presentation entitled “Innovations in Steel Aerosol Packaging,” Dr. Daniel Abramowicz, Crown’s Chief Technology Officer, will highlight how out-of-the-box thinking drives the innovation process at Crown. He will share a variety of groundbreaking aerosol packaging technologies, including advancements in decoration and manufacturing. Dr. Abramowicz will also discuss how the integration of digital technology can provide new levels of functionality and engagement for consumers.

Attendees at the event will also be able to find out more about Crown’s most recent collaboration with EVRYTHNG, the Internet of Things (IoT) Smart Products Platform pioneer, aimed at helping brand owners harness the power of Internet of Things technology by embedding real-time, connected digital intelligence into billions of everyday consumer packaged goods (CPG).

As part of this pioneering collaboration in smart packaging for CPG products, Crown will print serialized codes that can be scanned by smartphones on products packaged in aerosol cans and specialty packaging tins at the point of manufacture. These ‘digital triggers’ are integrated with the EVRYTHNG IoT Smart Products Platform, giving each physical package a unique software identity and data profile in the cloud. The combination of smart packaging powered by smart software in the cloud makes billions of packaged goods more intelligent, more interactive, more trackable and more valuable to CPG companies and their customers.

“Metal remains the preferred packaging format for aerosol products thanks to its wide-ranging performance benefits and product protection capabilities,” explained Veronique Curulla, Marketing Director of CROWN Aerosols & Specialty Packaging Europe. “In addition, the format’s sustainability credentials are unmatched, given that steel is 100% recyclable and infinitely recyclable, meaning it is part of the circular economy and is reused over and over again without degradation in quality. While personal care and household products are the largest portion of the 5.6 billion aerosol market, opportunities for innovation abound in a variety of other application segments. Advancements in the functionality, shaping and decoration of steel aerosols can help brands deliver the convenience consumers are looking for and even inspire new usage and consumption opportunities.”
