Thursday, June 10, 2004

PHILADELPHIA, June 10 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Crown Holdings, Inc. (NYSE: CCK)(Crown) has introduced its new AquaGuard(TM) plastic closure specifically designed for the bottled water industry. Produced by the company's affiliate, CROWN Beverage Closures, AquaGuard(TM) combines the economy of 26.7-mm sizing with tamper-proof technology and a triple thread bottle finish for easier, one-twist opening for the consumer. Made with a taste sensitive HDPE resin, the AquaGuard(TM) closure has no impact on product taste.

The AquaGuard(TM) closure features a patented inside plug seal capable of holding pressure up to 30 PSI together with Crown's second-generation PolyGuard(TM) tamper-evident band. In addition, the plug seal remains engaged until after the tamper-evident band is broken, ensuring a secure package from bottler to consumer.

"With the bottled water industry solidly moving from 28-mm to 26.7-mm, we're delighted to bring Crown's innovation to bottlers and consumers in this new economical closure size," says Patrick Nash, Vice President and General Manager, CROWN Beverage Closures. "AquaGuard(TM) delivers cost savings and superior brand protection to bottlers while consumers enjoy a more convenient package."

AquaGuard(TM) closures are produced at Crown's Sandston, Virginia and Salt Lake City, Utah facilities for efficient distribution nationwide.
