Meeting Global Industry Classification Standard

As the leader in metal and transit packaging technology, our GICS (Global Industry Classification Standard) code, managed by MSCI and S&P Global, is 15103010 - Materials, Containers, and Packaging. Per GICS, "the Materials sector includes companies that manufacture chemicals, construction materials, glass, paper, forest products and related packaging products, and metals, minerals and mining companies, including producers of steel." As this is a wide description of manufacturing activities it's important to elaborate on what manufacturing activities Crown engages in and those which we do not.

What We Do

  • Manufacture rigid metal packaging
  • Manufacture glass packaging
  • Manufacture machinery for the metal can manufacturing
  • Manufacture equipment for transit packaging application
  • Manufacture transit packaging using paper, plastic, and steel
  • Employ over 23,000 people in 39 countries
  • Provide health and safety trainings to all employees, including operational guidelines necessary for job-specific procedures
  • Research, develop, and innovate products and processes to reduce environmental impacts while optimizing production by using recycled materials and efficient equipment
  • Improve our employees' workplace safety through the adoption of the ISO 45001 occupational health and safety management system. As of our last review in June 2026 based on 2025 data, 36% of our employees work in operations certified to ISO 45001.
  • Through ISO 14001, we continue to enhance environmental management across our operations. As of our last review in June 2026, 47% of our employees work in ISO 14001-certified operations
  • Ensure safety and compliance for all outside contractors through contractor safety and management programs
  • Monitor our suppliers' ISO 14001 environmental management system adoption rate, which is at 73% and counting
  • Strengthen supply chain responsibility through SEDEX SMETA audits. As of our last review in June 2026 based on 2025 employee account data, 30% of our employees work in facilities that have completed SEDEX audits, with 29% certified to SMETA standards, ensuring our suppliers and operations meet rigorous social and ethical standards
  • EcoVadis has certified Crown Holdings at the corporate level (Bronze) as well as some business divisions and individual plants such as Crown BEVCAN EMEA (Bronze) and Signode Dinslaken (Platinum)
  • Monitor any incidents of significant spills for which the Company is legally responsible remediate and take action to prevent any future incidents
  • Focus on waste reduction
  • Complementing our Zero Waste by 2030 goal, Crown has a company-wide hazardous waste disposal program. The goal of this program is to direct all hazardous waste to proper disposal routes.
  • Complementing our Zero Waste by 2030 goal, Crown has a business waste management program including the recycling of business or office waste, including paper and other office items.
  • All employees with Company e-mail addresses (which includes all the Company’s salaried employees) are required to complete annual training on Crown’s Code of Business Conduct and Ethics (“Code”) and certify compliance. Of those employees required to participate in the annual Code training last year, over 90% completed the course. The Company works continuously toward full participation among this employee population. Completion rates last year for the annual Code training in each of the following regions exceed 90%: Americas, Asia Pacific, and EMEA. Last reviewed: August 2026
