Crown Holdings New Protact(R) Can Boosts Shelf Appeal, Simplifies Safety Compliance for Alaskan Salmon Processors

PHILADELPHIA, June 7 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Processors of wild Alaskan salmon have a fresh choice in packaging with the launch of innovative Protact® steel cans from CROWN Food Packaging, an affiliate of Crown Holdings, Inc. (NYSE: CCK)(Crown). Constructed from advanced polymer-coated steel manufactured by Netherlands-based Corus Packaging Plus, the new Protact® can exceeds all FDA and European Union food safety standards, enabling salmon processors to use the same packaging for global distribution.

Protact® cans are specifically engineered to withstand the demanding salmon packing process, ultimately delivering the best possible product to the consumer. Polymers used in Protact® cans are chemically inert, so there is no affect on product taste.

Applied by direct extrusion, the advanced polymer coating on the Protact® can creates a highly polished finish on both the interior and exterior of the package, giving processors the opportunity to distinguish their brands and enhance retail shelf appeal.

Protact® cans are already being used by Peter Pan Seafoods and Icicle Seafoods to package salmon in 1-pound and 1/2-pound sizes.

"Design opportunities are very attractive with this progressive packaging," says Barry Collier, CEO, Peter Pan Seafoods. "The fact that Protact® meets or exceeds food safety standards in all of our markets is a tremendous benefit for us logistically."

Don Giles, CEO of Icicle Seafoods, agrees: "The new packaging is already differentiating our brand to consumers around the world in a very consistent, appealing way."

Crown Holdings, Inc., through its affiliated companies, is a leading supplier of packaging products to consumer marketing companies around the world. World headquarters are located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
