(NYSE: CCK) today announced the development of an innovative, single- serve steel container for pet food, offering pet owners a new level of convenience. The lightweight, 12mm container features a heat-sealed, polypropylene peelable lid, allowing quick and easy dispensing. Consumers simply peel back the lid, place the container on the floor, and pets can eat from it directly, eliminating the need to transfer food to a separate bowl. For additional convenience, a self-stick adhesive pad on the base of the container ensures it stays in one place, eliminating product spillage.

Developed for Covi, an established French food manufacturer, to maximize brand impact during its entry into the competitive pet food market, the innovative containers are available in 100g (cat food) and 300g (dog food) sizes. The user-friendly package eliminates the need for can openers, features no sharp edges and requires minimal clean up efforts.

Manufactured in Crown's Perigueux plant, the Covi container has a clean and attractive porcelain-looking white internal coating. The container's heat seal and packing process protects food quality and offers maximum shelf life. Once the pet food is consumed, empty containers are easily disposed of and are fully recyclable.

Food processors can further increase appeal by decorating the container's peelable lid with colorful graphics.

Crown's unique container is nominated for a prestigious "Oscars de l'emballage" award from the French Institute of Packaging. Created in 1955, the award is an important indicator of innovations in the French packaging industry. Winners will be announced at a special ceremony on November 20, 2002 during the Emballage trade show.
