CROWN Speciality Packaging Europe to Exhibit at Expoliva 2013, Stand C16

Philadelphia, PA – April 29 2013. Data from the International Olive Council shows that demand for olive oil is thriving worldwide, especially in Europe. As consumers on the continent are opting for olive oil more and more over alternative cooking oils, many brands have turned to packaging as a way of appealing to health-conscious individuals while differentiating their products from the competition. Metal packaging is increasingly popular, due to the design opportunities that it provides, as well as its ability to keep the delicate oils protected from air and light, maintaining their quality. This May, CROWN Speciality Packaging Europe, a business unit of Crown Holdings, Inc. (NYSE: CCK) (Crown) (www.crowncork.com), will be demonstrating its metal packaging solutions for olive oil brands looking to stand out and entice the consumer at Expoliva 2013 in Jaén, Spain (May 8-11; Stand C16).

Crown has many years of experience working with oil manufacturers, having partnered with leading brands in the sector, including La Organic, Prince Albert Olives, Merula and Hacienda Queiles. The company has developed striking metal formats for these brands, in a variety of shapes, that convey a message of quality and refinement while enhancing protection of the product within from damaging exposure to light and air.

Metal packaging provides a host of other benefits for the olive oil industry. It is lightweight and robust making it easy and safe to transport over long distances, which is an important factor for olive oil producers looking to export successfully. Metal is also 100% recyclable and infinitely recyclable with no degradation in material performance, supporting consumers’ and brands’ sustainability efforts. Steel is the most widely recycled packaging material in the world.

CROWN Speciality Packaging Europe’s manufacturing facilities are located across Europe, streamlining supply chain efficiencies for olive oil brands. Brands can choose from a range of shapes, diameters and heights depending on individual goals. Crown also has the capability to design cylindrical, oblong and irregularly-shaped tins, as well as incorporate decorative finishes, enabling brands to boost brand differentiation. Brands are supported from the concept stage to full implementation of their new packaging by Crown’s expert customer technical services team (CTS), helping to ensure that tins are tailored to their specific needs and manufacturing conditions.

“In a competitive market such as olive oils, brands must stand out from their competition through stimulating and appealing packaging,” said Véronique Curulla, Marketing Manager, CROWN Speciality Packaging Europe. “Crown works closely with oil producers to design beautiful metal packages for their oils. These not only help shoppers to choose the oil, driving sales, but can even encourage consumers to leave the oil visible in their kitchens, boosting brand awareness and loyalty.”
